Mr Yewlett was great and listened to everything said to him. The only negative is he has now left Prince Charles leaving those of us waiting for surgery in agony and nothing from the hospital to say what is happening next. Very poor patient care from the hospital but excellent care from Mr Yewlett.

After a fall just before Christmas 2016, I suffered severe damage to my right shoulder. The diagnosis was “Fracture dislocation with subcoracoid humeral head fracture” (the ball of the shoulder joint at the top of the humerous had snapped off). The extent of the injuries was such that a successful repair was not possible. I was introduced to Mr. Alun Yewlett who was a Locum consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at Prince Charles Hospital. Mr. Yewlett went to great lengths to explain what damage had been done, what options were available (there was only one) where I had a good chance of regaining a fully functional shoulder. He carried out a “Trauma reverse” (Reversed shoulder replacement) on 29th December 2016. This is an implant where the ball of the shoulder joint is put where the socket used to be and the socket put where the ball used to be. This is not a common procedure and I was fortunate for Mr. Yewlett’s expertise in this area. The operation was a great success (in my opinion) although I had to keep the shoulder pretty much immobile for 6 weeks after the operation to prevent further injury and promote healing. It’s 3 months since the operation and about 6 weeks since starting physiotherapy, with my shoulder movement and rotation improving steadily. I saw Mr. Yewlett today 24th March 2017 and he was very pleased with the way things are progressing, re iterating that it could take 9-10 months to reach the maximum movement I am likely to achieve. While it has been a bit of an ordeal for me, I was very fortunate to have been cared for by Mr. Yewlett, not only an exceptional surgeon but with a wonderful bedside manner, where nothing is too much trouble. He is very approachable and takes the time to explain everything and answers any questions you may have. A great shame he is leaving Prince Charles Hospital, but he will be a wonderful asset to his new hospital. Mrs Elizabeth Coombs

I am not usually someone who writes reviews but as I have received such outstanding excellent care, Mr Alun Yewlett deserves the recognition. Seven months ago I had an accident that resulted in multiple fractures in my ulna and radius head. This left me with no supernation at all (rotation) nor could I straighten my arm past a 90 degree angle. As a mother with a young baby and someone who loves dancing and Zumba as a hobby, the thought of having restricted movement to undertake daily activities was quite distressing. A week into my injury, I was introduced to Mr Yewlett who has been true to his word and provided excellent duty of care going above and beyond to ensure the best treatment. Along this journey, he has provided a very human, caring approach who has listened intently and taken all my concerns into consideration for my treatment. No amount of time was too great in explaining options so even a novice like myself could understand the complexity of the damage undertaken and that I clearly understood what various surgical procedures would entail. Although I took the long haul approach as we waited for the initial breaks to fuse together before attempting a complex surgery, it was definitely the right decision in my particular case. Various scenarios were discussed in pre planning the procedure as there are unknowns until the actual surgery. I truly believe that the optimum result was achieved from having surgery only a week ago. I have been left with no pins or plates, no artificial replacements, neat inside out stitching and Mr Yewletts great experience of manipulating and shaving bones etc has meant that I can already supernate my arm and straighten it almost the same as my left arm. The aftercare set up with time and physio will also undoubtedly improve my ability so I am one very happy patient! I don't even need to have any further surgery which was originally expected. I would highly recommend anyone going under the care of Mr Yewlett, not only will he spend time getting to know you, your lifestyle and needs, he will also go above and beyond to get your best result by extensive research exploring modern day procedures and even introducing techniques such as compulsive passive motion machines to greater the success. He is a true experienced professional with very high standards to get the best for his patients and is very kind and caring in his approach so I am so very pleased that he treated me! Just down to me now with physio!

Recently, I underwent a left shoulder HAGL repair performed by Mr Yewlett and it is very easy to write this review because quite simply he is exceptional. The standard of surgery and the care he provided were outstanding. He is thorough, considerate and answered all my questions with patience and good humour. He also explained the risks and reassured me. He understood my concerns and the pressure of being an elite international Judo athlete who needs to return to training. His bedside manner is excellent and I have no hesitation in recommending him as a surgeon. Kate Ashton, Aberdare.

I have suffered with tennis Elbow for 8 years had several sessions of repeated Physio over that time period together with several quarterzone injections, which did not allieviate the pain...I was then fortunately referred for surgery, this was carried out by Locum Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics Mr Alun Yewlett, on Consultation he fully explained operation which was carried within 3 months of seeing him... My care was to a very high standard very little faint scarring, I would add that Mr. Yewlett would be a great asset to The Royal Glam NHS service..also would thank everyone involved at the royal Glam..
